Understanding Your Weekly Activity Grade

How Your Weekly Grade is Calculated

Your weekly activity grade is based on your fitness tracker data. Understanding how it works helps you stay on track.

What are ExerDays?

ExerDays (Exercise Days) is the number of your best activity days that count toward your weekly grade. Most courses require 5 ExerDays per week, though your instructor may set a different requirement.

This means if you have 7 days of activity, only your top 5 days (by step count) are used for grading. This gives you flexibility, you can have a couple of low-activity days without it hurting your grade.

Weekly Grade Calculation

Each week, the system:

  1. Collects all your daily activity from Google Health
  2. Sorts your days by step count (highest to lowest)
  3. Takes your top ExerDays (typically 5 days)
  4. Calculates the average steps from those days
  5. Compares this to the course requirements to determine your grade

eFit Minutes

All of your activity now comes through Google Health, and eFit turns it into one consistent measure of intensity called eFit Minutes: 1 per minute of moderate effort, 2 per vigorous minute, from your heart rate, a logged workout, or a brisk walk (100 or more steps a minute). Fitbit and Pixel watches report Active Zone Minutes, which feed eFit Minutes one-for-one; every other device earns them through the workouts you start on the watch or in an app, their heart rate, and your brisk walking.

Alongside your steps, eFit Minutes give a fuller picture of your effort, so a shorter, more intense workout can count as much as a longer, easier one. Start swims, rides, strength sessions, and classes as workouts so they reach Google Health; steps alone cannot see those minutes. Workouts typed in by hand are recorded for your instructor and never count.

Why Your Grade Can Dip During the Day

Today is part of the weekly calculation while the day is still in progress. A grade you check in the morning is scored with only a few hours of steps for today, so it often reads lower than it did the night before. Once the evening sync delivers the rest of the day's activity, the grade recovers on its own.

If a number still looks wrong a full day later, compare your daily steps before anything else: open your steps in the Google Health app, tap Steps, choose Week, and check each day against your Current Activity page in eFit. Compare Your Steps Day by Day walks through the comparison and the screenshot to send if the numbers disagree.

Viewing Your Grades

To check your weekly and semester grades:

  1. Log in to your eFit dashboard
  2. Click Grades in the navigation menu
  3. View your weekly breakdown and running semester average

Holidays and Exceptions

Your instructor may designate certain dates as holidays (like Thanksgiving or Spring Break). On these days:

  • The system accounts for reduced activity expectations
  • You won't be penalized for lower step counts
  • Check your course syllabus for designated holiday dates

Tips for Success

  • Sync daily - open your fitness app each day so your data reaches Google Health
  • Stay consistent - aim for steady activity across the week
  • Check early - review your activity mid-week to make sure you are on track
  • Use rest days wisely - with 5 ExerDays required, you have 2 lighter days built in
