I Recorded a Workout but Got No eFit Minutes

You did the workout, your watch or app recorded it, and the day on your Activity Data page shows steps but few or no eFit Minutes. One of five things happened. The recorded workouts line under each day's minutes on that page names which one for each session; this article explains them and what to do next time.

Short version: eFit Minutes come from workouts that reach Google Health as a recorded session, and from heart-rate zone minutes. Wearing a watch through a class produces steps only. Start the workout on the watch or app before you begin, and let it sync afterwards.

1. The workout never reached Google Health

eFit reads Google Health. Your watch records the session, its own app receives it, and Google Health collects it from there. If the session is missing from the recorded workouts line entirely, it stopped at one of those hops. Open your tracker's app and let it sync, then open Google Health and check the session appears under your activity for that day. Once it does, press Refresh my activity on the Activity Data page.

2. It was typed in by hand

A workout added manually in Google Health or in your tracker's app is stored, and it is shown on the Activity Data page as typed in by hand, earns no credit. eFit grades what your device measured. If your device missed a session, ask your instructor about instructor-entered credit rather than typing it in.

3. The activity type earns no minutes

Meditation, stretching, and a few other session types do not count toward eFit Minutes, whatever their length. Yoga, pilates, tai chi, and barre count at half. Everything else that raises your effort counts minute for minute, and minutes at a vigorous heart rate count double.

4. It was capped

A single workout counts for up to 3 hours (90 minutes when it carries no heart-rate data). A longer session still counts, up to that limit, and the page marks it capped at the per-workout limit.

5. Two records covered the same time

When your watch and your phone, or two apps, both recorded the same session, eFit keeps the better record and marks the other covered by a better record for this day. Nothing was lost; the same minutes are not counted twice.

Next time

  • Start the workout on your watch or in its app before you begin, so it becomes a recorded session with your heart rate.
  • After the workout, open your tracker's app, then Google Health, so the session travels across.
  • Check the day on Activity Data: the recorded workouts line under the minutes number shows what arrived and what it earned.
