Google Will Not Let You Sign In (Can't Access This Service)

You tap Continue to Google, choose your Google account, and instead of the permissions screen Google shows you something like “Can’t access this service”, often saying you are too young. The page never comes back to eFit.

Short version: that message comes from Google’s own sign-in page. eFit never saw your attempt, so there is nothing on our side to fix, and trying again gives the same answer every time. Something about the Google account you picked is blocked from using Google Health, and this article covers the four things that cause it.

Your eFit account is fine while this is happening. Your password, your enrolment, and your grades are untouched. The block sits entirely on the Google account you chose at the sign-in screen.

Cause 1: the account is supervised (Google Family Link)

This is the usual one when your own age is right, and it surprises nearly everybody who hits it.

Google supervised accounts cannot use Google Health. If a parent set your Google account up for you, or added supervision to it later, Google refuses to let it sign in to Google Health no matter how old you are now.

The part that catches people: supervision does not switch itself off when you turn 13. Google emails you and your parent to say the account can be updated, and if nobody acts on that email the supervision simply stays. Years later the account is still supervised, still refused, and the birthday on it is perfectly correct.

To check, open myaccount.google.com while signed in as that account. A supervised account says so, usually with a note about a parent managing it or a Family Link banner.

How to remove it. A parent has to do this:

  1. The parent opens the Family Link app, or goes to g.co/YourFamily.
  2. They select your profile, then Controls, then Account settings, then About supervision.
  3. They follow the screens and choose Stop supervision.

Anyone under 18 needs a parent’s approval for this, and you will both be notified when it happens. Once supervision is off, open the Google Health app on your phone, sign in with that account, finish its setup screens, and then come back to Fitness Tracker and connect.

Removing supervision changes what your parent can see and control across your whole Google account, so it is their decision to make. If they would rather leave it on, use the option in If none of this clears it at the bottom of this page instead.

Cause 2: it is a school or district Google account

Schools, districts, and colleges block the accounts they issue from signing in to outside apps, and Google Health is an outside app to all of them. Education domains can also shut under-18 users out of extra Google services entirely, which produces a refusal that reads like an age problem.

If the address you picked ends in your school’s domain rather than gmail.com, this is your cause. Sign in with a personal Google account instead. It does not have to match the email on your eFit login, and your eFit login stays exactly as it is; it only has to be the account your fitness data lives in, so sign in to the Google Health app with that same account too.

Cause 3: the birthday Google has on file

Google goes by the date of birth stored on the account, which is not always the one you would give out loud. An account created years ago with a placeholder birthday, or one where a digit was mistyped, is treated as underage, and every age-restricted service refuses it.

  1. Open myaccount.google.com/personal-info signed in as that account.
  2. Check the Birthday shown there against your real one.
  3. Correct it if it is wrong. Google may ask you to verify the change, and it can take a little while to take effect.

If the birthday was already right, this is not your cause; go back to cause 1.

Cause 4: parental controls on the phone or the network

Sometimes Google’s page loads but the sign-in is blocked by the device or the Wi-Fi rather than by the account.

  • iPhone: open Settings, tap Screen Time, then Content & Privacy Restrictions. If that is switched on, open Content Restrictions, then Web Content, and choose Unrestricted Access.
  • Android: check any parental-control or Digital Wellbeing app that filters browsing.
  • School Wi-Fi and school-issued devices filter Google sign-in pages. Try again on your own phone using home Wi-Fi or cellular data.

If none of this clears it

Some Google accounts genuinely cannot be linked, and no amount of retrying changes that. If you have worked through all four causes:

  1. Try a different personal Google account. Install or open Google Health on your phone, sign in with that account, finish the setup screens, and connect eFit to it. It has to be the account your fitness data lives in, so give it a day of wearing your tracker or carrying your phone before you judge whether the numbers look right.
  2. Tell your instructor. If no Google account you can use will connect, your instructor can record your activity for you so the assignment is not lost. Tell them what Google said and roughly when you tried. Do this rather than letting days pile up while you troubleshoot.

You can also open a support ticket. Tell us the exact wording Google showed you, whether the account is a personal or a school one, and whether it is or was supervised through Family Link. That is enough for us to tell which cause you are on.

eFit support cannot unblock a Google account. The refusal happens on Google’s own sign-in page, before eFit is involved at all, so we never see the attempt and have nothing to release from our side. What we can do is confirm which cause fits and make sure your assignment is handled while you sort it out.
